Type Locality and Naming

Includes in Khation Region, Sughd Region, Darvaz district, Dushanbe - west Shirkent-Luchob, Dushanbe - east Shirkent-Luchob.

Lithology and Thickness

The Santonian stage (Kattaqamysh horizon) in the Kafirnigan district is two-membered. The lower part is represented by greenish-gray clays with interbeds of sandstones, limestones, and shell limestones with a thickness of 30-100 m. The upper part of the Santonian stage in the Guadalupan Asian region (Iljin) is formed by interbedded colorful clays, sandstones, siltstones, and gypsums with a thickness of $30-180$ m. The thickness of the Santonian stage in the Kafirnigan area is 90 to 210 m.
